The Challenge

MiClub, Australia's preferred supplier of golf and club management solutions, needed to elevate their web presence and create distinctive online experiences for their high-profile golf club clients. Each client required a unique design that represented their brand while maintaining technical integration with MiClub's back-end systems.

My Role

As Lead Website Designer, I was responsible for:

• Designing and developing custom WordPress themes
• Managing client expectations and feedback
• Creating SEO-optimised sites with proper schema markup
• Balancing multiple projects simultaneously
• Developing solutions for novice computer users to manage content

The Approach

Creating websites for prestigious golf clubs required both technical skill and an understanding of their unique brand positioning:

For each client, I'd start by understanding their club's character and membership demographics. A tourist-focused club like Melbourne Sandbelt needed a vastly different approach than a membership-focused club like The Grange.

After the initial research, I'd sketch concepts that captured the club's essence while ensuring practical usability. Since most club managers weren't tech-savvy, I'd create simple user flows that anyone could understand.

When building the WordPress themes, I focused on creating custom admin interfaces that made content updates intuitive. This meant simplifying the WordPress back-end and creating custom fields tailored to each client's needs.

To handle multiple simultaneous projects, I developed a system for managing client feedback and approvals. This kept projects moving forward even when waiting for responses from one client.

For the technical implementation, I used technologies like SASS with SMACCS architecture to create maintainable code that could be easily updated as needs changed.

Results

My work at MiClub produced successful launches for prestigious clients including:

• 13th Beach Golf Club - Clean and simple design completed in just 3 weeks
• The Grange Golf Club - Implemented SASS with SMACCS architecture to solve unique client requirements
• The Melbourne Sandbelt - Tourist-focused design for eight of the most prestigious golf clubs in Australia
• Twin Creeks Golf & Country Club - Unique user flow designed to achieve desired results while minimizing impact on usability
• The Manly Golf Club - Design focused on welcoming guests for functions while conveying an elite but welcoming atmosphere
